A philosophical essay: declaring the probable causes whence stones are produced in the greater world ... being a prodromus to a medicinal tract concerning the cases and cure of the stone in the kidneys. London, William Cademan, 1672.

This octavo volume never delivers the medical tract promised on the title, but contains one “of the treatises which set forth most clearly and in the greatest detail the views concerning the origin of stones which were held in the seventeenth century, were written by men who were particularly interested in these [medical] calculi ... he sets forth and develops at length the thesis that all stones and metals have seeds from which they grow...” (Adams, The birth and development of the geological sciences, 1954 p.102).

In other words, this is one the pioneering books in the history of the science of geology. The last copy to sell at auction was at Sotheby's in 1999 for £400; there's currently a copy online in poor shape for £470; but a fine copy will probably set one back £1500.Marmarthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01721743122958687854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8382076272947689523.post-68738801971706448512012-01-30T21:32:51.649-08:002012-01-30T21:32:51.649-08:00My husband had to eat a steak and kidney pie in Lo...My husband had to eat a steak and kidney pie in London.
