Rare, Unpublished Dr. Seuss Original Artwork Comes To Auction

Nate D. Sanders Auctions is currently offering a signed, original, and unpublished pencil and watercolor drawing by Dr. Seuss as part of its August 16, 2011 online sale.

The drawing is titled, Mrs. M. on the Trail. Mrs. M. is likely the wife of Mr. Mayor of Whoville; the characters appear in Horton Hears a Who (1954) and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1957).

 

Here, Mrs Mayor makes her way down a long and winding road terracing a steep mountain with various animal companions in tow, blissfully unaware of a crocodile waiting below.

The drawing exhibits overall toning and some fading to the signature.

The current bid is $2,594. The reserve has not yet been met. Bidding ends on Tuesday, Aug, 16, 2011 at 5PM.
